WHO IS A PHARMACY TECHNICIAN?

As a Pharmacy Technician, you will be helping the Licensed Pharmacist with all the necessary day-to-day services that the Pharmacy provides. Everything from preparing medications to answering phones, receiving and verifying prescriptions, counting tablets, taking requests for refilling of medications, and much more.  You are an assistant to the pharmacist.

Driving Dynamics

The Maine Driving Dynamics course is a driver improvement course that is aimed to improve a student's defensive driving awareness and abilities. This five-hour course includes discussion of collision avoidance techniques, safety issues, driver habits and attitudes, and the basic elements that constantly challenge drivers on Maine's highways. A student who completes the course will receive a three-point credit on their driving record. It may take up to 2 weeks for processing.

Who is a Dental Assistant?

The purpose of this course is to gain background knowledge and vocabulary for an entry level position in the clinical or administrative dental setting. Learning media provide specific insight into preclinical and clinical areas of dental assisting, reviewing chapter content and the application of content. Chapters include professional and legal aspects of dental assisting, anatomy and physiology, dental anatomy, infection control and hazardous materials, dental treatment, patient care, dental imaging, preventative dentistry, restorative dentistry, and specialized dentistry. Students will be given the building blocks for DANB RHS content certifications, and access to materials to prepare for this exam. Resume writing (including updated personal resume) and professional development are required for graduation. During each week of our 10-week program we assist the student to build the confidence, skills, and knowledge to assist the dentist and be a valuable member of the dental healthcare team. Each week of the course covers a different area of dental practice, allowing students to grasp the material in manageable chunks. What is a Clinical Medical Assistant (CMA)?                                     A Clinical Medical Assistant is a medical support professional that performs a variety of tasks to assist physicians in providing patient care, while ensuring that clinics and hospitals run smoothly and efficiently.  While CMAs working in smaller practices may be required to perform some administrative tasks, those working in larger medical facilities focus mainly on providing support services directly related to patient care.  Here at the Academy we offer both Clinical and Administrative programs that can be combined.

WHO IS A MEDIAL TRANSCRIPTIONIST?

As a Medical Transcriptionist, you are responsible for receiving verbal information and typing that information into a word processing program, such as Microsoft Word or Word Perfect.  This information must be transcribed accurately, using the format specified by the provider (SOAP notes, discharge summaries, and other report forms).

Basic computer knowledge is a must, as are basic typing skills and knowledge of commonly used word processing programs. Most doctors or transcription companies ask for a minimum of 60 WPM. Also, many companies now use the Internet, which gives you the opportunity to work out of your home without having to drop off and pick up tapes.
