WHO IS A MEDIAL TRANSCRIPTIONIST?

As a Medical Transcriptionist, you are responsible for receiving verbal information and typing that information into a word processing program, such as Microsoft Word or Word Perfect.  This information must be transcribed accurately, using the format specified by the provider (SOAP notes, discharge summaries, and other report forms)

In this Welding class, Richard teaches welding at all levels from beginners to advanced with one on one instruction.   

The first class is mandatory as safety training and equipment safety are discussed and demonstrated.

Welding Class Scope and Sequence:

  • Health & Safety aspects of welding (PPE and proper lab behavior)
  • (SMAW) "aka Stick" equipment and setup
  • Polarities and electrical fundamentals
  • Wire identification spool and electrode
  • Metal shear operation
  • Electric arc wedling (6011 flat) Padding
  • An introduction to (GMAW) "aka MIG" welding
  • Oxy-acetylene safety, setup, and cutting
  • Plasma safety, setup, and cutting
  • OPEN LAb - each student can pick a particular area of interest and work on their own profect.

Houlton Hodgdon Adult & Community Education is ready to assist you in our Crash Course for the TEAS Test. 

Evaluate your skills - Focus on your areas of weakness - Find more about the parts of the test, test taking strategies - Prepare you to succeed - Build skills in math, science, reading, and English

At your pace, flexible schedule, with a hybrid approach to learning (online options, face to face, or virtual with Zoom).

This course is for those entering the nursing or allied health programs that require the TEAS test for admissions.

This course will provide you with an overview of the TEAS test, and breakdown of how the test is designed.  It will provide you with the skills and confidence to take the TEAS test.

We will cover study techniques, learning styles and relaxation and memorization techniques.  Staff will provide lessons on TEAS test specific areas, such as Math, Science, Reading, and English Language Arts. 

A group and individual approach will be sued to ensure all learners are acquiring the skills they need to prepare for the TEAS test.

DENTAL ASSISTING PROGRAM LINK TO AMP WEBSITE.

Who is a Dental Assistant?

The purpose of this course is to gain background knowledge and vocabulary for an entry level position in the clinical or administrative dental setting. Learning media provide specific insight into preclinical and clinical areas of dental assisting, reviewing chapter content and the application of content. Chapters include professional and legal aspects of dental assisting, anatomy and physiology, dental anatomy, infection control and hazardous materials, dental treatment, patient care, dental imaging, preventative dentistry, restorative dentistry, and specialized dentistry. Students will be given the building blocks for DANB RHS content certifications, and access to materials to prepare for this exam. Resume writing (including updated personal resume) and professional development are required for graduation. During each week of our 10-week program we assist the student to build the confidence, skills, and knowledge to assist the dentist and be a valuable member of the dental healthcare team. Each week of the course covers a different area of dental practice, allowing students to grasp the material in manageable chunks. Media used for instruction include textbook, workbook, demonstration videos, slides and learning games, and hands-on lab.

What is a Clinical Medical Assistant (CMA)?   

A Clinical Medical Assistant is a medical support professional that performs a variety of tasks to assist physicians in providing patient care, while ensuring that clinics and hospitals run smoothly and efficiently.  While CMAs working in smaller practices may be required to perform some administrative tasks, those working in larger medical facilities focus mainly on providing support services directly related to patient care.  Here at the Academy we offer both Clinical and Administrative programs that can be combined.

WHAT IS A MEDICAL OFFICE SPECIALIST - NATIONALLY CERTIFIED AS A MEDICAL ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT (CMAA) MEDICAL BILLING CERTIFICATE THROUGH AMP

A Medical Administrative Assistant is a versatile professional. The duties that are performed vary not only from office to office but even within the same office. Medical Administrative Assistants perform routine duties within the offices of many types of health professionals, including physicians, chiropractors, cardiologists and others. In addition, individuals can accomplish various jobs in the hospital environment, and some are employed by freestanding emergency centers and surgery centers.

This certification program will teach you the practical real-world skills essential for success in the healthcare field.  This completely inclusive course consists of Medical Terminology, Medical Front Office Skills, EHR/EMR for the Medical Office and the Administrative Medical Assistant.  You will learn MedTrak electronic records system used in many medical offices.  In addition, upon completion of all courses, you will sit for your CMAA (Certified Medical Administrative Assistant) Examination and CBCS (Certified Billing Specialist) through the National Health career Association and you will receive a certificate of medical billing through the Academy of Medical Professionsed.

MEDICAL CODING PROGRAM LINK TO AMP WEBSITE.

WHAT IS A MEDICAL CODER?

As a Medical Biller/Coder you are responsible for reviewing the documentation the physicians have provided and assigning the correct diagnosis and procedure codes, entering the necessary information into the patient’s account and submitting the claims to the Insurance Companies.  You are then responsible for tracking and receiving payment from the Insurance Companies and billing the patient when necessary.  You will also be responsible for reviewing any denials and researching to make sure that the claim was submitted correctly the first time.  If any necessary changes can be made, you are responsible for making the changes and following up with the Insurance Companies.

This is a CNA Class with Classes & Labs Delivered in a Hybrid Format.

Clinicals will be held at approved facilities.  Exact dates and times will be on the class schedule.

Become a CNA through our training program at Region Two School of Applied Technology. This course will run from January 3 to March 31, 2023.  Remote/Online Learning is being offered through our partnership with other Adult Ed Programs.

Class Times:  8am~2pm  (Every other day as per class schedule)

Winter Session Class Schedule

Successful graduates will be certified for employment in state-approved health care institutions through the State of Maine and will be placed on the Maine Board of Nursing Registry.
